Installing Sunrise

Requirements

Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit
100 GB of free storage
A Steam account that owns Destiny 2

Before you start

Pick an empty folder. The game is installed there.
Your Steam username is the name you sign in with, not the name on your profile.

We also recommend:

Add the game folder as an exclusion in Windows Defender.
On Windows 11, turn off Smart App Control.

Install with the installer

Download and run the Sunrise Installer.

Windows can flag or block Sunrise:

Windows Defender can flag the mod as a threat. See why antivirus tools flag it.
Smart App Control can block the game with the error Bad Image (status 0xc0e90002).

Windows Defender

These steps are the same on Windows 10 and 11. Create the empty game folder first if it does not exist yet.

Open Start, search for Windows Security and open it.
Select Virus & threat protection.
Under Virus & threat protection settings, select Manage settings.
Scroll to Exclusions and select Add or remove exclusions. Select Yes when Windows asks for permission.
Select Add an exclusion, then Folder.
Pick the game folder and select Select Folder.

You can also add the exclusion from PowerShell. Open PowerShell as administrator and replace the path with your game folder:

Common issues

Bad Image (status 0xc0e90002)

Smart App Control blocked the game. Turn Smart App Control off, as shown in Windows Defender and Smart App Control.

“DepotDownloader failed with exit code 1”

Most often, the Steam account name or password is wrong. Enter your account name, not your profile name. The account name is the one you sign in to Steam with. It cannot be changed, and only you can see it. Steam shows it under Account details.
